Some blogging goals for 2026
2025 was a great year for me personally: I travelled far, took lots of photos, and got obsessive about tracking the many species I was interacting with.
However, that meant it wasn’t such a great year for the blog - in fact, for the first time I was under 30,000 words for the year. I’d like to change that, and so have a few grand goals for 2026.
100 months: a celebration
I started this blog in December 2016. It’s now March 2025. That’s 100 months - and I’ve published at least one post in each of those months.
Sometimes I get frustrated when I don’t manage to write what I want or as much as I want - but it’s still an accomplishment to celebrate.
Another five post November
Five years ago (pre-Covid, even!), I set a goal to publish five posts in November. What’s more, I actually achieved it!
I’d like to try again this November (starting Friday…).
I don't have a problem with writing
I don’t have a problem with writing. Sure, posts have been thin on the ground, and if I didn’t have my “one post a month” streak to keep up this blog might be finished.
But the real problem is with publishing. With finishing. With catching one idea from the many flitting through my head and chasing it down till it’s done.
I think they had fun writing this
The other day I was reading the Prologue to Out of Oz, the fourth and final novel of The Wicked Years. And I found a simple quote that made me smile, and I wondered if the author had fun writing it.
NaBloPoMo 2019: How did it go?
In October, I wrote about why I didn’t want to do NaBloPoMo. However, I also set a goal for November: To publish at least five blog posts, and if possible to complete a short story I first drafted in March.
How about NaBloPoMo?
Another day, another weird but possibly catchy abbreviation. Earlier this week I wrote about NaNoWriMo, today it’s time to talk about the blogger response: NaBloPoMo!
NaNoWriMo
With November approaching, this is the time of year I start to think about NaNoWriMo. Over the years I’ve had various family members and friends doing it, and some of them have told me I should too. However, I remain almost as hesitant this year as I have been in previous years.
